HARRIS RUSSELL "PETE" TIBBELS, 87 of Ranger,
TX passed away peacefully on Dec. 2, 2025 in Abilene,
TX, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at Ranger.
He was born on Dec. 20, 1937 in Ranger to Fred Tibbels
& Jewel Smith Tibbels. He lived in Ranger for the first
19 years of his life. He attended Ranger school's grades
1-12 graduating from Ranger High School in the Class of
1956. After attending 1 semester of Ranger Jr. College,
he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in
1956. He retired in 2002 after 46 years with "Ma Bell".
He was a member of the Jaycee's for many years. He served
in the National Guard for several years and was called up
during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He married Kay King (RHS-1958) in Feb. of 1958. They had
3 children, Alan (RHS-1978), Scott (RHS-1978), and Donn
(RHS-1982). He has 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Sandra Tibbels Welch (RHS-1964).
He was preceded in death by his son, Alan Tibbels; his
parents; and 3 brothers including Charles Tibbels (RHS-
1957) and 1 sister.
