ROY MELVIN BRUCE, 87, was born Oct. 7, 1911 in
Mason, TX. After graduation from Ranger High School
in 1931 at Ranger, TX, he moved to Big Spring in 1933.
During his schooling, he played end on the football
team & was class vice-president all four years. Roy
married Maxine Fuller in March of 1944 in Columbus,
KS. He died on Jan. 25, 1999 at Big Spring, with
burial at Resthaven Cemetery in Brady, TX.
He served in the Army Signal Corps during WWII in Europe
and in Okinawa in the Pacific. When he was discharged
after the war he had attained the rank of Fist Lieutenant.
He was awarded the Purple Heart medal. He returned to
Big Spring where he went into business for himself,
operating a Texaco and later a Phillips 66 gasoline
station. He also operated a garage & Hertz car rental.
He worked in the installment loan department of the
First National Bank at Big Spring for eight years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Staked
Plains Lodge 598, A.F. and A.M., and order of the Eastern
Star.
At the time of his death, he is survived by his wife,
Maxine Bruce of Big Spring, three sisters, Doreen Bruce
Patterson (RHS-1942) & Maude Bruce Campbell (RHS-1931),
both of Brady, and Mary Arrendale of Austin and a number
of nieces and nephews, another sister was Willa Bruce
Coleman (RHS-1923).
