BARBARA ANN COOPER WHATLEY, 89, a
dedicated community member and cherished wife,
mother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her
home on June 9, 2026, surrounded by the love she
nurtured throughout her lifetime.
Born on Feb. 22, 1937, in Ranger, TX, Barbara's
journey was marked by devotion?to her faith,
family, business, & community. A proud graduate
of Ranger High School in the Class of 1955, she
furthered her education at Temple Jr. College,
laying the foundation for her successful career
in real estate. She obtained her real estate
license and went on to establish Whatley Real
Estate, a business she passionately led until
her retirement. Alongside her primary career,
Barbara contributed her talents to Ambient Energy,
showcasing her industrious spirit and commitment
to hard work.
Barbara's faith was central to her life. A devout
member of her church, she expressed her spirituality
through song, often filling her home with the up-
lifting sounds of hymns. Music was a shared joy in
the Whatley household, where Barbara and her husband,
Donald E. Whatley, played various instruments together,
including time spent around their piano. Their mutual
love for music extended to cruises where they enjoyed
watching Donald perform on his saxophone, moments
treasured deeply by both.
Her dedication to her community extended beyond her
professional endeavors. Barbara actively promoted her
real estate business with great enthusiasm at local
parades, carnivals, and community events, embodying
the spirit of engagement and service that defined her
life.
Barbara's personal life was enriched by meaningful
relationships and enduring love. She first married
Alan Rushing (RHS-1947), with whom she had three
daughters: Tammy Rushing Quintero, Rhonda Rushing
Kelly, and Julie Rushing Page. After Alan's passing,
Barbara briefly married Mr. Blanching before their
union ended in divorce. In 1993, she found the love
of her life, marrying Donald E. Whatley, with whom
she shared many years filled with companionship and
mutual support.
Barbara is lovingly survived by her husband Donald
E. Whatley; her three daughters Tammy, Rhonda, and
Julie; her brother Fred Cooper (RHS-1958); sister
Sarah Cooper Collins (RHS-1965), & several grand-
children who will carry forward her legacy of love
and commitment. She was preceded in death by Guy
and Rosa Weathers Cooper, her sister Sandra
Cooper (RHS-1960), & her brother Ralph Cooper (RHS-
1949).
Barbara Ann Whatley's life was a testament to faith,
perseverance, and heartfelt dedication to those around
her. She has now been reunited with the Lord she so
faithfully served. Her memory will endure in the hearts
of all who were fortunate to know her, honoring a
life well-lived and a spirit deeply revered.
